2. Our Agreement With You

When you rent a storage unit or garage from us, you enter into a Licence Agreement with The Waste Group Ltd trading as The Storage Containers (“WGL”). This licence allows you to store goods in the unit allocated to you — it does not grant you a lease, tenancy, or exclusive possession of the space. Unit and garage sizes are approximate and may vary slightly from those described.

3. Payments

Storage fees are payable in advance on the first day of each billing period. We do not consider payment made until we have received cleared funds. A deposit is required on signing your agreement, which will be refunded within 21 days of the end of your agreement, less any deductions for unpaid fees, cleaning, or damage.

For self-storage container agreements, a late payment fee of £10 or 10% of your storage fee (whichever is greater) applies each time a payment is missed or cancelled. We may require payment by Direct Debit or other automatic payment method.

If fees remain unpaid, we reserve the right to restrict your access to your unit and, after due notice, to sell or dispose of your goods in accordance with our full licence agreement terms.

4. Your Contract & Notice Period

Self-storage containers operate on a 4-weekly recurring basis. Garage storage operates on a monthly basis. Either party may end the agreement at any time by giving two weeks’ written notice. You have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date you sign up — if you cancel within this period, a refund will be calculated based on the length of time you have used the storage.

5. What You Can Store

You are responsible for ensuring your goods are suitable for storage and that the unit is appropriate for them. You must not store any of the following:

  • Food or perishable items (unless securely packed to prevent attracting vermin)
  • Living creatures
  • Combustible or flammable materials (including gas, petrol, paint, solvents)
  • Firearms, explosives, weapons, or ammunition
  • Chemicals, radioactive materials, toxic waste, asbestos, or hazardous substances
  • Items emitting fumes or odours
  • Illegal goods or substances
  • Environmentally harmful goods
  • Irreplaceable items such as currency, jewellery, deeds, fine art, or items of personal sentimental value
  • Lithium-ion batteries exceeding 160Wh, power banks, or e-scooters/e-bikes (self-storage only), unless batteries are built into the device, in good condition, and not being charged within the unit

6. Insurance

Your goods are stored entirely at your own risk. WGL does not insure your goods. It is a condition of your agreement that you maintain appropriate insurance cover for the full replacement value of your goods at all times during storage. WGL’s liability for loss or damage to goods is limited to £100.

7. Access

Access to your unit is subject to the access hours posted at each facility. We reserve the right to temporarily change access hours for safety, security, maintenance, or operational reasons. Only you or your authorised agents may access your unit. We may refuse access if fees are outstanding or if we have safety or security concerns.

For garage storage at Sherborne, 24/7 access is provided via key fob. Key fobs must be returned within 48 hours of termination — a charge of up to £20 per unreturned fob may be deducted from your deposit.

8. Your Responsibilities

You must keep your unit secure, maintain it in a clean and good state of repair, and use it solely for storage purposes. You must not use your unit or garage as a business address, living accommodation, or for any activity that causes nuisance to others. For garage storage, mechanical work, spray painting, and vehicle repairs are not permitted without our prior written consent.

9. Our Right to Enter Your Unit

We may enter your unit with at least 7 days’ notice for inspections or maintenance. We may enter without notice in an emergency, where we believe prohibited goods are being stored, or where required by law or by authorities including the Police, Fire Services, or HMRC.

10. Your Data & Privacy

We collect and process your personal data in accordance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We use your data to manage your account, process payments, and communicate with you. We may share your data with credit reference agencies, fraud prevention bodies, and trade associations of which we are a member. You have the right to request a copy of the data we hold about you — please contact us at info@thestoragecontainers.co.uk.

For full details of how we handle your personal data, please see our Privacy Policy.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales. We ask that both parties first attempt to resolve any dispute through mediation before pursuing legal action.
